Bull Falls on the Pike River at Amberg, WI

This was the first stop on my motorcycle trip from Sheboygan, WI, to the Rocky Mountains in Montana, JUL-AUG 2004. There were few big cities on my itinerary, and Amberg was not one of them. In fact, my trip officially began in Green Bay. That way, I didn't have to count it and explain to myself why I didn't spend more time sightseeing there.

Actually, there are many waterfalls and rapids in the area. Some are in parks that charge admission. Bull Falls is reached by approaching Amberg on US 141. CTH K heads east just south of town. Power lines cross CTH K about 1/2 mi from its junction with US 141. Park your vehicle on the power company's right of way on the south side of CTH K. Cross CTH K and walk north under the power lines. Within a 1/4 mi, the well-defined path will lead you down to the rapids on the Pike River.
Bull Falls, Pike River, WI Hey dol! merry dol! ring a dong dillo!
Ring a dong! hop along! fal lal the willow!
Tom Bom, jolly Tom, Tom Bombadillo!

Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow;
Bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow.

Reflections, Pike River, WI Hey! Come merry dol! derry dol! My darling!
Light goes the weather-wind and the feathered starling.
Down along under Hill, shining in the sunlight,
Waiting on the doorstep for the cold starlight,
There my pretty lady is, River-woman's daughter,
Slender as the willow-wand, clearer than the water.

Reflections, Pike River, WI Old Tom Bombadil water-lilies bringing
Comes hopping home again. Can you hear him singing?
Hey! Come merry dol! derry dol! and merry-o,
Goldberry, Goldberry, merry yellow berry-o!
Poor old Willow-man, you tuck your roots away!
Tom's in a hurry now. Evening will follow day.

Bull Falls, Pike River, WI Tom's going home again water-lilies bringing.
Hey! Come merry dol! Can you hear me singing?

Hop along, my little friends, up the Withywindle!
Tom's going on ahead candles for to kindle.

Wildflowers, Pike River, WI Down west sinks the Sun: soon you will be groping.
When the night-shadows fall, then the door will open,
Out of the window-panes light will twinkle yellow.
Fear no alder black! Heed no hoary willow!
Fear neither root nor bough! Tom goes on before you.
Hey now! merry dol! We'll be waiting for you!
